FCB Eliminated from Mitsubishi Dealer Review
LOS ANGELES–Foot, Cone & Belding’s San Francisco office has been eliminated as a finalist in the review for Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America’s estimated $80 million national dealer account, according to Mike Agate of Select Resources International, the Los Angeles consultancy conducting the review. “A decision is still pending” on which of the two remaining finalists–Deutsch’s New York and Santa Monica, Calif., offices or Grey Advertising in Los Angeles with Zimmerman & Partners Advertising in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.–will win the business, Agate said. The Cypress, Calif.-based client will pick a winner this month, sources said.
Levi’s Names Five Finalists
SAN FRANCISCO–Levi Strauss & Co. has announced the final contenders for its estimated $90 million U.S. ad account. The participants are incumbent Foote, Cone & Belding and Hal Riney & Partners, both in San Francisco; Bartle Bogle Hegarty, London; TBWA Chiat/Day, Venice, Calif.; and BBDO Worldwide, Los Angeles and New York. The agencies will meet with Levi’s executives this week and be briefed for the final pitch. A decision is expected in February.
FDA Searches for Media Agency
LOS ANGELES–The Food and Drug Administration in Rockville, Md., has issued a request for proposals to an undisclosed number of agencies nationwide to handle a $5 million media buying assignment. The winning agency will be asked to buy TV, radio, outdoor and newspaper media for a campaign that aims to prevent retailers from selling cigarettes and smokeless tobacco to minors. The effort will also focus on parents. Questionnaires are due by Dec. 5.
Burnett Wins Motorola Account
CHICAGO–Motorola’s Semiconductor Products Sector unit in Phoenix awarded its estimated $35 million global account to Leo Burnett here. Other finalists, according to sources, were Bozell Worldwide, New York, and Foote, Cone & Belding, San Francisco. Incumbent Fogarty Klein & Partners, Houston, will remain on Motorola’s roster and may handle future assignments, with Burnett handling the global branding work.
Fruit of the Loom Picks Warwick Baker O’Neill
NEW YORK–Warwick Baker O’Neill here won the estimated $20-25 million North American ad account of Fruit of the Loom, Bowling Green, Ky. The shop beat out Mezzina/Brown, New York, and Lois/EJL, Chicago.
Weissenberger Dies at 56
LOS ANGELES–Charlotte Weissenberger, former director of media services at Coca-Cola USA in Atlanta, passed away Nov. 23 in San Rafael, Calif., at the age of 56. Over her 25-year career, Weissenberger worked for J. Walter Thompson as associate media director in New York and media director in Atlanta. She received Adweek’s Creative Media Award while at JWT in 1987.
