Knape Changing to Valentine Radford
DALLAS–Knape here is adopting the name of its parent organization, Valentine Radford, and will be receiving added account and creative support from the $150 million Kansas City, Mo., shop. Formed last year, Knape operated independently save for media and minimal account resource support from VR. VR chairman and chief executive officer Chuck Curtis said the agency hopes to build the $6-8 million unit into a $20 million office by the end of 1999.
McDonald’s Celebrating Big Mac’s 30th
CHICAGO–McDonald’s next month will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Big Mac with TV spots from DDB Needham Chicago tagged, “Get back to Big Mac.” Separately, Leo Burnett here has created a 30-second TV spot with Chicago Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa for the Chicago McDonald’s operators co-op.
Illinois Lottery Ads ‘Hit It Big’
CHICAGO–The Illinois Lottery this week breaks a new campaign, themed “Hit it big,” for its Big Game lottery. Three 30-second TV spots from Foote, Cone & Belding here portray lottery winners getting to do something big in their lives.
Nuveen Narrows to Semifinalists
CHICAGO–Investment firm John Nuveen & Co. here narrowed its search for an agency to 12, with a shorter list expected around the end of the month. Those in contention are Chicago shops Arian, Lowe & Travis, Cramer-Krasselt, Bender, Browning, Dolby & Sanderson, Keroff & Rosenberg, Lighton Coleman, Jack Levy Associates, Mobium Creative Group, McConnaughy Stein Schmidt Brown, Rapp Collins and Rhea & Kaiser; as well as Minneapolis agency Fallon McElligott and Straightline International, New York. Incumbent Publicis & Hal Riney, Chicago, is not participating. A decision on the $5 million account is expected by the end of September.
Spiegel Catalog Enlists Partners & Shevack
CHICAGO–Spiegel Catalog, Downers Grove, Ill., last week awarded its account to Partners & Shevack in New York. Spiegel last year spent about $15 million on advertising, according to Competitive Media Reporting. Creative work had been done in-house; media buying was at McConnaughy Stein Schmidt Brown here.
Horizon Awarded Silly Slammers Media
LOS ANGELES-Horizon Media’s Los Angeles office picked up an estimated $5 million in media duties for Gibson Greetings’ Silly Slammers toys. Creative duties for the Cincinnati-based client are handled by The Playground in Cleveland.
Progress Software Calls Review
BOSTON–Progress Software, Bedford, Mass., is reviewing its creative and media placement accounts. Billings on the account are $3-5 million. Pile and Co. in Boston has been hired to assist with the search process
