Porsche to 5 Finalists: I Want My SUV
NEW YORK–The pitch assignment for the five finalists named last week in the review for Porsche Cars North America’s estimated $15 million account is how the car maker should position the launch of its first sport utility vehicle in 2002, according to client executives. The shops–Leagas Delaney, San Francisco; Kowloon Wholesale Seafood Co., Santa Monica, Calif.; Carmichael Lynch, Minneapolis; WestWayne, Atlanta; and The Richards Group, Dallas–are scheduled to make strategic presentations Feb. 8-9, said Joel Ewanick, general manager of marketing at Porsche. The client whittled down the list of contenders from more than 150 applicants. Creative Media, New York, will continue to handle media planning and buying chores. Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco, split with the Atlanta-based car maker several months ago.
Dreyer’s Puts $10 Mil. in Play
SAN FRANCISCO–Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Oakland, Calif., has contacted West Coast shops about handling a new product launch, said sources. Among the agencies contacted by consultancy Seggerman & Co. in Berkeley, Calif., for the estimated $10 million assignment were: Goodby, Silverstein & Partners and Young & Rubicam, both San Francisco; TBWA/Chiat/Day, Playa del Rey, Calif.; and Fallon McElligott, Minneapolis, said sources. The client denied that a search was under way. The search does not appear to affect the estimated $30 million account handled by lead shop Goldberg Moser O’Neill, San Francisco.
ABC Undertakes Brand Study for Future
NEW YORK–ABC has embarked on a long-term strategic study to explore its brand positioning beyond the next television season, according to Alan Cohen, the network’s New York-based executive vice president of marketing. While Cohen declined to give details, sources said the network is working on the study with British consultancy Red Spider and lead ad agency TBWA/Chiat/Day, Playa del Rey, Calif.
Ground Zero Launches Atlantis Spot
LOS ANGELES–Ground Zero, Santa Monica, Calif., has created a two-minute TV spot for Atlantis Resort & Casino in the Bahamas that breaks tonight on prime-time programming in East Coast markets.
