Dallas Cowboys Switch Car Sponsors
DALLAS–The Dallas Cowboys football team has made General Motors its official automotive sponsor, replacing Ford Motor Co. As part of the deal, GM has agreed to attach new cushions to the 65,000 seats in Texas Stadium. The cushions will feature the blue and silver colors of the team and the logos of GM’s divisions: Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Oldsmobile and Pontiac. A representative for the Ford Dealers Advertising Fund told The Dallas Morning News that the team’s off-field image influenced the group’s decision not to renew its contract with the Cowboys.
Truck Maker Selects The Richards Group
DALLAS–Freightliner Corp., a producer of heavy-duty trucks, has selected The Richards Group to handle its $10 million advertising account following a national review. Other finalists in the review were Bozell in Seattle, Cole & Weber in Seattle and Portland, Ore., and The Mandala Agency in Bend, Ore. Freightliner is based in Portland; The Richards Group is in Dallas.
Barkley Bows Out of Adams Golf Contest
CHICAGO–Barkley Evergreen & Partners has dropped out of the review for Adams Golf’s advertising account in order to absorb new business wins, said agency officials. Remaining in the hunt for the $10 million Plano, Texas-based account are: incumbent RD/Fox, San Francisco; DDB and The Richards Group, both Dallas; and Temerlin McClain, Irving, Texas. Barkley Evergreen & Partners is based in Kansas City, Mo.
Conoco Corp. Selects Campbell-Ewald
CHICAGO–Conoco Corp. has selected Campbell-Ewald Advertising for an estimated $15-20 million corporate branding account following a review against Merkley Newman Harty and Foote, Cone & Belding. The latter two agencies are located in New York. The branding account represents a new assignment. Conoco Corp. is headquartered in Houston; Campbell-Ewald is in Warren, Mich. Jones-Lundin Associates in Chicago conducted the search.
Ogilvy Acquires WebMD Account
ATLANTA–Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide was awarded WebMD’s global branding business without a review. Estimated billings are $40 million for Ogilvy’s New York office. The previous agency was Gotham, also in New York. The Atlanta-based WebMD offers online healthcare information services for both physicians and consumers.
Gaylord Entertainment Hits the Ice
ATLANTA–Gaylord Entertainment Company has acquired naming rights to the Nashville Arena from the National Hockey League’s Nashville Predators. The facility is now called the Gaylord Entertainment Center. A representative of the Nashville, Tenn.-based Gaylord, which also owns the Grand Ole Opry, said the 20-year deal will amount to $80 million.
