Fallon Unveils Qualcomm Effort
CHICAGO–Fallon McElligott has bowed its first campaign for wireless phone marketer Qualcomm. The estimated $20 million effort, which will include print and television executions, centers around the creation of ideas and is tagged, “Go brain go.” The San Diego company’s previous tagline was “A revolution in technology.” Print ads will appear in September monthlies; television spots will break next month. The agency is based in Minneapolis.
BE&P Pulls Out of Golf Review
CHICAGO–Barkley Evergreen & Partners has dropped out of the review for Adams Golf’s advertising account to deal with other new business, according to officials at the Kansas City, Mo.-based agency. Remaining in the hunt for the Plano, Texas-based client’s $10 million business are incumbent RD/Fox, San Francisco; DDB Dallas; The Richards Group, Dallas; and Temerlin McClain, Irving, Texas.
TN Reports on Second Quarter
CHICAGO–True North Communications has reported an 11 percent increase in revenues for the quarter ended June 30 over the same period a year ago. Income was up 20 percent, to $21 million. TN’s operating margin for the quarter was 11.2 percent, up from 10.5 percent a year ago. The Chicago-based holding company claimed $170 million in new-business billings from wins including Sunbeam Corp. at Foote, Cone & Belding and DaimlerChrysler’s international media at Bozell Worldwide.
Campbell-Ewald Adds Conoco
CHICAGO–Global energy company Conoco Corp. has selected Campbell-Ewald Advertising for an estimated $5 million corporate branding account after a review against Merkley Newman Harty and Foote, Cone & Belding, both New York. It is a new assignment. Conoco is based in Houston; Campbell-Ewald is in Warren, Mich. Jones-Lundin Associates in Chicago handled the search.
Cooper Tire Looks to Fahlgren
CHICAGO–Cooper Tire & Rubber is expected to tap Fahlgren for its $5 million ad account following a review, sources said. The Findlay, Ohio-based client chose the Dublin, Ohio, shop over Cramer-Krasselt, Chicago; Bozell, Southfield, Mich.; and Harris Drury Cohen, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The incumbent was Fogarty Klein 312, Chicago.
Lee Dresses Up Fall Inserts
CHICAGO–The Lee Apparel Co. this week breaks an eight-page insert promoting its new stretch twill and denim products. Developed by Fallon McElligott in Minneapolis, the insert will appear in women’s magazines hitting newsstands Aug. 9. The client is based in Merriam, Kan.
