Hoffman to Return to Wieden HQ From London
NEW YORK–Susan Hoffman is set to leave Wieden & Kennedy’s London office after 18 months and return to the shop’s Portland, Ore., headquarters later this month. Hoffman, partner and co-creative director, got the London outpost started in April 1998. Earlier, she helped establish Wieden’s office in Amsterdam. Tony Barry, who started as Hoffman’s co-creative director, will continue in that post.
Daewoo Schedules Presentations
LOS ANGELES–Daewoo Motor America has invited “several” Southern California shops to make presentations Aug. 6 for its 2000 model year assignment, according to Collin Lee, marketing specialist for national promotions and advertising at the Compton, Calif., company. He added that Daewoo may select multiple shops for various ad and marketing duties.
GMO Breaks New Kia Work
SAN FRANCISCO–Goldberg Moser O’Neill breaks new print and TV ads for Kia Motors America this week, reprising the Y2K (“Yes2Kia”) theme used in ads from the agency last spring. Two 30-second TV executions feature a reporter investigating how Americans are preparing for the predicted Y2K problem. In one spot, the reporter interviews a man digging a hole in his backyard at night to hide his valuables. The reporter reminds him not to worry because Y2K really means “Yes2Kia.” Before the words sink in, however, the man strikes a gas line, causing an explosion.
TBWA/C/D’s Red Tab Ads Break This Week
SAN FRANCISCO–TBWA/Chiat/Day launches three new TV spots for Levi Strauss & Co.’s Red Tab jeans brand this week [Adweek, July 26]. The sexy fall campaign includes a spot of “invisible people” clad in Levi’s attire getting passionate with each other.

Toshiba America, Irvine, Calif., selected DGWB Advertising to handle its $30 million computer systems account. The shop, also in Irvine, pitched against finalists JSM+ Communications, Santa Monica, Calif., and D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles’ Los Angeles office. Incumbent Bozell Worldwide, Costa Mesa, Calif., declined to participate in the review. …, Pasadena, Calif., awarded its ad account to Asher & Partners, Los Angeles, after a review. Billings are undisclosed. Western Initiative Media Worldwide, Los Angeles, will handle media buying duties. … BBDO West, San Francisco, and Grey Advertising, New York, are the finalists in Cleveland-based’s agency search, sources said. Billings are estimated at $10-20 million. Final presentations are Aug. 9, sources said.
