Sealy Trims Review to In-state Trio
ATLANTA–Sealy Mattresses of High Point, N.C., has made a cut to three in-state agencies in the review for its $15 million account. According to sources, they are: McKinney & Silver, Raleigh; Trone Advertising, High Point; and Long Haymes Carr, Winston-Salem. Eliminated were The Martin Agency, Richmond, Va., and Price/McNabb, Charlotte, N.C. Chicago incumbent Leo Burnett did not defend, as the client, formerly based in Cleveland, seeks an agency close to its new home.
Doner Direct’s Destination Is Detroit
ATLANTA–Doner Direct will relocate its base of operations from Baltimore to Doner’s worldwide Detroit headquarters by the end of the year. Doner chief executive officer Alan Kalter said the move was intended to build on recent new business wins and make Doner Direct “a stronger part of the agency and a better resource for our clients.” Doner Direct president Tony Everett and all upper management will move west. An as yet undetermined number of direct marketers will remain on the East Coast. Doner recently won the accounts of Progressive Auto Insurance and ADT Home Security, adding about $100 million in billings. Large portions of both accounts involve direct marketing.
FGI’s Butta to Leave Chapel Hill Shop
ATLANTA–Chief executive officer Tom Butta of FGI in Chapel Hill, N.C., said last week that he will leave the company to become chief marketing director at Red Hat Software in Research Triangle Park, N.C. Karen Albritton, previously head of FGI’s media department, will assume leadership of the creative department as managing director of marketing and communications. Butta is the fifth executive or creative to depart the agency since May. A representative for FGI said there are currently no plans to name a new chief executive officer.
Goldberg Marchesano Signs 6 Clients
ATLANTA–Goldberg Marchesano Partners in Washington D.C., has added six clients whose combined billings top $6 million. The new accounts are: National Record Mart, a Pittsburgh operator of five national music store concepts; Dominion Sky Angel, a satellite TV and radio programming network in Naples, Fla.; D.C.’s Culi-Services, a food personnel staffing company; the 16 metro D.C., Annapolis, Md., and Richmond, Va., Chili’s restaurants owned and operated by Chesapeake Food of Fairfax, Va.; Fitness Resource, a Fairfax, Va., retail chain specializing in exercise equipment; and Papa John’s Pizza franchise in Rochester, N.Y.
AirTran Ads Will Promote New Fleet
CHICAGO–AirTran Airlines will bow ads this fall from Cramer-Krasselt here touting its new planes. The Orlando, Fla.-based carrier’s first Boeing 717s are due as early as October. Teaser TV spots, print, radio and billboards are expected during late September in Atlanta and Orlando, and eventually in other major U.S. markets. The budget is expected to be about $2 million.
