Richards, DDB Square Off for Viacom Retail
DALLAS–Viacom’s Dallas-based entertainment group has narrowed an agency review for its retail properties to DDB Needham and The Richards Group, both Dallas, according to sources. The agencies made final pitches to Viacom executives last week. A winner could be named as early as this week. Representatives at both shops declined to comment, as did Viacom executives. Billings for the account have not yet been determined. Louis London, Irving, Texas, was also included in preliminary discussions with Viacom.

Six Flags Adds Boutique to Review
NEW YORK–Grybauskas Beatrice, a creative agency in New York, has emerged as a shop involved in the $40-45 million review for Six Flags Theme Parks, Parsippany, N.J., sources said. Other contenders include the client’s lead media shop, McCann-Erickson, Lowe & Partners/SMS and Grey Advertising, all New York. Sources said Six Flags’ priority is to create a single brand image for all of its theme parks, although the review was spurred by the client’s interest in media and creative consolidation. Sources also said creative work (currently in-house regionally or assigned to local shops in Six Flags markets) and media could remain split if park operators object.

Compaq Offers Mad About You Promotion
CHICAGO–Compaq Computer Corp., Houston, this week begins a promotion with Atlantic Records. All Compaq computers will include a CD-ROM featuring a music video of “The Final Frontier,” the theme song for TV program Mad About You penned by show star Paul Reiser. The disc includes a segment on the making of the video. Coupons discounting products from Epson, Microsoft and Adobe software also are included. Frankel & Co., Chicago, created the promotion; IPA, Chicago, developed the CD-ROM.

Point Blank Hires New Business Executive
DALLAS–Irving, Texas-based Point Blank Advertising has hired former Compass Bank senior vice president Nancy Nichols to head new business development for the two-office network. She will work from Point Blank’s Austin, Texas, office. Point Blank was formed Aug. 1 by former CSA&D owner Colin Shubitz in Irving and ex-MC2 media director Larry McIntosh in Austin.

Byrne Johnson Garners Account Wins
DALLAS–Byrne Johnson here has been named agency of record for MicroFab Technologies, Richardson, Texas, and been awarded corporate identity and collateral assignments for Kennerly Capital, Dallas. Billings for both clients were undisclosed.
