Bennigan’s Seeks Promotional Partner
DALLAS – Bennigan’s Restaurants, part of Metromedia Restaurant Group, is looking for an agency to handle promotions, industry sources said. Officials at Bennigan’s Plano, Texas, headquarters were unavailable to comment at press time. Doner in Cleveland handles the client’s brand and promotional work. Sources said the chain would like to have a new promotions agency selected by the early part of July. Bennigan’s currently operates more than 50 international and domestic franchised restaurants.
DDB, Dallas Newspaper End Relationship
DALLAS – DDB Dallas and The Dallas Morning News ended their agency-client relationship last week, with the paper moving its $2 million account in-house. The daily has already launched the first new campaign developed by its own advertising team on radio and television, reviving a former tagline, “Sunday isn’t Sunday without The Dallas Morning News.”
Jordan Associates Gains Oklahoma Business
DALLAS – The Oklahoma Department of Commerce has awarded its estimated $1.5 million, three-year advertising contract to Jordan Associates of Oklahoma City. The assignment was made following a competitive review with undisclosed agencies.
Applebee’s Review Down to Final Trio
CHICAGO – Late entry Campbell Mithun Esty is among three finalists in the review for Applebee’s International’s $35 million advertising account. CME was not among the six contenders released by the company at the outset of the account review last month. Officials at the Minneapolis agency said they were invited to the pitch by Karen Eadon, the Overland Park, Kan., company’s senior vice president of marketing. Foote, Cone & Belding of Chicago and The Richards Group in Dallas are the other two finalists. Among the shops cut was incumbent Wyse Advertising in Cleveland. A final decision is expected in late July.
Digital Roundup
San Antonio-based Harte-Hanks Inc. has announced the acquisition of LYNQS Newmedia of Kansas City, a developer of Internet and intranet applications. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. LYNQS will become part of Harte-Hanks Interactive, a full-service, international direct marketing company that was formed in April . . . America Online has acquired total ownership of Digital Marketing Services of Lewisville, Texas, an online developer of incentive programs and custom market research. As a wholly owned subsidiary, DMS will develop rewards and research programs for many of AOL’s brands, including Digital City, ICQ and CompuServe . . . Houston-based has launched a television campaign that depicts the classified section of The Houston Chronicle in flames, signalling the Internet job site company’s decision to compete directly with traditional media.
