McCann, CME Will Pitch Penske Business DETROIT--Penske Auto Center in Troy, Mich., will hear presentations from McCann-Erickson, also in Troy, and Campbell Mithun Esty, Minneapolis, for its $15-22 million account. Harris, Baio & McCullough, Philadelphia, was its previous agency. A decision is expected by the end of July. Midas Selects 4 Agency Finalists CHICAGO--Contenders for Midas International's $25 million national account are Chicago agencies Euro RSCG Tatham, Cramer-Krasselt, Foote, Cone & Belding and DDB Needham, according to sources. Officials at Midas here confirmed there were four finalists, but declined to identify them. A decision is expected in mid-August. J. Walter Thompson in Chicago resigned the account in May, citing a conflict with its Ford business. Riney Is Assigned a Gas Utility Account CHICAGO--Hal Riney & Partners/Heartland here has been named the agency of Nicor, the holding company of Northern Illinois Gas, following a review. Annual ad spending was estimated at $1-3 million but is expected to grow as deregulation heats up competition. The account was last handled by D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles' Chicago office, which closed in January 1996. Naperville, Ill.-based Nicor also retained Rhea & Kaiser in Naperville for integrated marketing. Grey Pursues Motorola Account CHICAGO--Grey Advertising in New York is the third finalist for Motorola's consolidated $40 million account, according to sources. The agency declined comment; Motorola officials could not be reached. J. Walter Thompson and Leo Burnett, both in Chicago, are also contenders. Borders Selects West Coast Shop DETROIT--Borders Books & Music, Ann Arbor, Mich., has tapped Butler, Shine & Stern, Sausalito, Calif., to handle creative work for its $5-10 million account. Media planning and buying earlier had been assigned to Carat North America, New York. Perich + Partners, Ann Arbor, previously handled creative and media duties. Fox Photo Narrows Search to 2 Contenders ATLANTA--360 in Atlanta and The Glennon Co., St. Louis, will be asked to make another round of presentations to Fox Photo, St. Louis, for its $5-8 million account, according to sources. Levenson & Hill, Dallas, confirmed it was withdrawing from the contest. Fox Photo executives did not return calls at press time. McDonald's Agencies Ready Presentations CHICAGO--Leo Burnett and DDB Needham here may make preliminary strategic presentations to McDonald's Corp. this week, but presentations of new creative ideas will not be held until the end of this month, sources said.
