Coca-Cola Exec Joins Cohn & Wolfe

ATLANTA—Diana Garza, former senior manager of public relations at Coca-Cola North America, has been named chief executive officer of Cohn & Wolfe. Garza joins the 30-year-old public relations agency in Atlanta a week after the dismissals of three senior managers, including Tony DeMartino. The former chief executive was fired after company officials learned he and other employees were establishing a rival business. Four C&W staffers quit to join DeMartino’s new agency, the Titan Network. Steve Aiello, Cohn & Wolfe president and chief executive officer in New York, said DeMartino and others were using C&W computers and work time to establish the new business. The dismissed employees are also believed to have been seeking business from C&W clients. DeMartino denied those allegations.

Nextel Rolls Out $125 Mil. Campaign

BOSTON—Nextel Communications is launching a nationwide advertising effort in support of its wireless telcom offerings. The Reston, Va., client may spend more than $125 million this year on television messages targeting business professionals. Mullen in Wenham, Mass., and Devon Direct of Philadelphia are the client’s primary agency partners. The “How business gets done” tagline, introduced a year ago, will be retained.

Crispin Porter & Bogusky Gains i-Open

ATLANTA—Crispin Porter & Bogusky has acquired the advertising account of i-Open. The Miami agency’s division for creative content development will also work with the Philadelphia-based client in the production of proprietary online content for retail distribution. Billings are approximately $5 million.

Homegoods Goes to Allen & Gerritsen

BOSTON—Following a review, TJX Cos. has tapped Allen & Gerritsen for creative chores on the $4-5 million account of Homegoods, a chain of housewares stores. The Watertown, Mass., agency supplants Boston’s Holland Mark Advertising, which split with several TJX units, including Homegoods and T.J. Maxx, in the fall. Pro Media in Natick, Mass., handles media chores.

JWT’s Houston Office Adds Personalysis

DALLAS—J. Walter Thompson has been named agency of record by Personalysis Corp. The Houston-based client supplies a personality assessment tool used to develop individuals and company teams within an overall consulting program. Initial work will focus on brand definition, recruitment and development of online testing. The account will be handled by the agency’s Houston office. Billings were not disclosed.

Coffee/Black Bows Print for Metro-Optix

DALLAS—Coffee/Black Advertising breaks its first print ad for new client Metro-Optix in trade magazines next week. The Dallas agency developed the “Thou shalt fear no protocol” tagline for the local maker of optical networking equipment. The less than $1 million business-to-business campaign includes buys in X-Change, Telephony and Telecommunications magazines. The campaign will expand to other titles next month.
