Air Force Cuts to Trio of Finalists

DALLAS—The U.S. Air Force has named three finalists to advance to the creative presentations stage of its$50 million review. The finalists are: GSD&M, Austin, Texas; Image Media Services, McLean, Va.; and the incumbent, Bozell Kamstra Texas in Irving, Texas. Missing the cut were SiegelGale, New York; and TMP Worldwide, Washington, D.C.

DDB Breaks TV Campaign for Phillips

DALLAS—DDB Worldwide last week rolled out a television campaign for Phillips Petroleum Co. The 30-second TV spot, “Team Partners,” produced by the agency’s Dallas office, is airing on CNBC, CNN and MSNBC. It also will be seen during Sunday morning network news programs on stations in Boston and New York. The commercial shows teenage boys picking two teams, supposedly for a game of basketball, unevenly divided between jocks and nerds. The voiceover says, “Through key joint ventures and strategic acquisitions we are building the new Phillips.” When a teacher tells the boys to put away the ball and get ready for a debate, the narrator states, “Pick the right partners.” The advertising campaign follows a series of acquisitions and joint ventures by the Bartlesville, Okla.-based client, which has reorganized to concentrate on exploration and production. The media budget for the 12-week campaign was not disclosed.

Richards to Give Prunes a Good Name

DALLAS—The Richards Group has been given some food for thought—how to alter the public’s negative perception of prunes. The Dallas shop has been appointed agency of record for the California Prune Board, which is based in Pleasanton, Calif. The account is valued at$1.1 million. Tom Reilly Consortium, Evanston, Ill., andVitroRobertson, San Diego, were finalists for the business. Earlier this year, the Food and Drug Administration granted the California Prune Board permission to use the term “dried plums” instead of “prunes.”

Link18 Tees Off With The Olson Group

DALLAS—The Olson Group has been selected to develop a branding and corporate identity program for Internet golfing startup Link18. The Texas-based startup provides golf courses with software solutions such as tee time registration, inventory management and tournament information. The Olson Group is based in Austin, Texas. Billings were not disclosed.

Bozell Kamstra Recruits Executive CD

CHICAGO—Bozell Kamstra has hired Ogilvy & Mather’s Glen Jacobs as executive creative director. Jacobs, who was a senior partner and worldwide creative director on Ogilvy’s Unilever business, will oversee the advertising product of Bozell Kamstra’s seven offices from New York. The agency is known as a business-to-business shop, but recently landed a $500 million, three-year branding project for Fujitsu. Jacobs said he expects to leverage that account acquisition into additional consumer advertising business. Bozell Kamstra’s current executive creative director, Ron Anderson, will retire at the end of the year.
