Continental Pulls Ayer Ads, Review Proceeds
DALLAS-Continental Airlines in Houston last week agreed to pull a humorous ad campaign developed by N.W. Ayer & Partners, New York, designed to lure New Yorkers to New Jersey’s Newark Airport. New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani was preparing to mount a boycott of the carrier, saying the ads were offensive to New York. N.W. Ayer was awarded the New York-only project from Continental in April. Separately, the airline was completing capabilities presentations from eight shops for the possible consolidation of its $50 million global advertising account. Client representative Sarah Anthony declined to say when the airline would narrow the list of contenders. The Richards Group, Dallas, is defending its U.S. portion of the account, estimated at $30 million.

TLP Receives New York Festivals Award
DALLAS-TLPartnership here won one of six best of show awards from The New York Festivals last week for its Aquafina radio spot. The honored commercial, “All the Wettest,” was selected from more than 1,300 entries from 33 countries, according to the agency.

TCBY Introduces Summer Promotions
DALLAS-TCBY Treats, a soft-serve yogurt and ice cream store chain headquartered in Little Rock, Ark., will kick off a contest and a product promotion this week at all 1,300 locations. The Island Fantasy Sweepstakes will send one TCBY customer and nine friends on a Caribbean vacation. TCBY’s agency is Stone & Ward, also in Little Rock.

Consultants Merge Operations in N.Y., Dallas
DALLAS-Achenbaum Bogda Associates, with offices in New York and Dallas, consolidated the operations of ad consultancy The Advertising Partnership into a new division within its company. The ad relationship division will have offices in New York and Dallas.

Bromley, Aguilar Earns Radio, TV Honors
DALLAS-Bromley, Aguilar & Associates of San Antonio has taken home separate honors for radio and TV work. The Radio Creative Fund handed Bromley, Aguilar a Silver Mercury award for its “Tango” radio spot for Procter & Gamble. The American Advertising Federation presented one of its national awards to the agency for the animated “Passion” ad completed for Coca-Cola USA.

Cyrk Buys Champion Awards & Advertising
DALLAS-Champion Awards & Advertising, a promotional products company in Houston, was acquired last week by Cyrk in Gloucester, Mass. Terms were undisclosed.
