Graham Group Buys AKA Advertising
NEW ORLEANS–The Graham Group here has acquired AKA Advertising of Lafayette, La. The $3 million AKA shop was founded three years ago by Kiki Frayard, who becomes vice president and creative director at Graham. Four other AKA staffers join Graham. AKA clients include regional accounts for U.S. Agencies Insurance, Community Coffee, Louisiana Health System and Bay Coast Medical Center. The acquisition boosts Graham’s billings to nearly $25 million. Graham has offices in Lafayette, New Orleans, Shreveport and Baton Rouge, La.
Richards, Ornelas, Bromley on O’Toole List
DALLAS–The Richards Group and Ornelas & Associates, both Dallas, and Bromley, Aguilar & Associates in San Antonio have been named finalists for the O’Toole Awards presented by the American Association of Advertising Agencies in New York. Richards is among 21 shops with $30 million or more in billings up for the O’Toole Agency Award, while Bromley and Ornelas are competing in the Hispanic-American category for the 4A’s O’Toole Multicultural honor. The winners will be named April 24 in Florida.
Ryland Homes Makes Fellers Decision Official
DALLAS–Ryland Homes of Columbia, Md., last week officially named Fellers in Austin, Texas, to handle its estimated $2 million marketing account for four Texas markets, according to the agency. The week prior, sources said the homebuilder chose Fellers over Bates Southwest, Houston; The Hay Agency, Dallas; and Henderson Advertising, Greenville, S.C. [Adweek, March 29] Incumbent Goswick Advertising in Houston had earlier resigned the business.
DDB Needham Makes Cut in Del Webb Review
DALLAS–DDB Needham Dallas was among four agencies selected as finalists for the $10 million account of Phoenix-based Del Webb’s retirement communities. Publicis & Hal Riney, San Francisco; Doner, Newport Beach, Calif.; and Phillips-Ramsey, San Diego, are the other finalists. A decision is expected in May.
FastSigns Heads for National TV Exposure
DALLAS–FastSigns, a graphics and signage company based here, today will break its new national television spot developed internally and produced by See Pictures of Dallas. The commercial will air on national cable networks including CNN, CNBC, ESPN and CNN Headline News. Rapp Collins Worldwide, Chicago, handles media. FastSigns spent less than $1 million on 1998 advertising, per Competitive Media Reporting.
Oracle Group Recruits HK&P Veteran
DALLAS–Oracle Group in Dallas and Houston has named Cliff Gillock executive vice president and executive creative director. Gillock, who will head up the one-year-old Houston office, was formerly executive art director at HK&P Advertising in Houston.
