Burnett Joins Hunt for SBC Media Account
DALLAS–Leo Burnett, Chicago, and DDB Needham’s Optimum Media, New York, last week were pegged by sources as additional contenders for the combined media buying account of SBC Communications’ Southwestern Bell and Pacific Bell brands. The account, which insiders estimate to be valued at $200 million, is likely to be awarded next month. Burnett two weeks ago resigned its $100 million Ameritech media account. Other previously identified shops still believed to be in contention include GSD&M, Austin, Texas, which handles creative work for SBC’s wireless and Yellow Pages business; and TBS Media Management, New York, the incumbent on Pac Bell media.
