Integer Group Acquiring Stern Advertising
CHICAGO–The Integer Group in Denver is acquiring Stern Advertising, a $96 million Cleveland agency. Terms were not disclosed. Like other Integer-owned agencies Kragie/Newell in Des Moines, Iowa, and Karsh & Hagan in Denver, Stern handles McDonald’s co-op accounts in several markets. Integer, acquired by Omnicom Group in 1997, projects total billings from its network this year of nearly $500 million.
Hyundai Breaks New Sonata Ads
LOS ANGELES–Hyundai Motor America today breaks two new TV spots for the Sonata that highlight the 1999 model’s safety features. The 30-second ads continue to tout the Fountain Valley, Calif., automaker’s “Hyundai Advantage” warranty program, introduced in ads late last year. Bates USA West, Irvine, Calif., created the campaign, which is also supported by print and outdoor executions. Separately, the car maker debuted its “Santa Fe” concept sport utility vehicle at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit last week.
Mendelsohn/Zien Resigns EarthLink
LOS ANGELES–Mendelsohn/Zien Advertising, Los Angeles, has resigned its EarthLink Network business after working on the account for just four months, according to the agency. The estimated $2-3 million test project, which the agency thought might lead to as much as a $50 million piece of business, never materialized, said sources. “EarthLink preferred a project relationship without a formal commitment,” said agency president Richard Zien. “That type of relationship is not consistent with our culture.” The shop had created just one direct response TV spot, which aired during the fourth quarter of last year. Sources said the Pasadena, Calif.-based Internet service provider has been contacting Los Angeles-area shops about handling its account.

The shop prevailed over fellow finalists Katsin/Loeb in San Francisco, McCann-Erickson in Seattle and incumbent WhiteRunkle Associates in Spokane, Wash. … Goldberg Moser O’Neill in San Francisco was selected by, a full-service Internet pharmacy, to handle its estimated $8 million account, following a review. The shop prevailed over three Seattle shops: Elgin/DDB, McCann-Erickson and Publicis.
