NEW YORK–Bates North America chief executive Bill Whitehead has named Victor Emmanuele business development manager, automotive, a new post servicing the agency’s $100 million Hyundai Motor America account. Based in New York, Emmanuele, 46, will help create below-the-line work for the Fountain Valley, Calif.-based automaker, including interactive and direct marketing.

SAN FRANCISCO–USWeb/CKS, Cupertino, Calif., this week launches a national print campaign to promote several series of Fujitsu PC Corp.’s LifeBook brand of notebook personal computers. The illustrated campaign is intended to take a “softer and less-tech” approach to marketing computers, according to a spokesperson for the Milpitas, Calif.-based client. The theme: “No matter what your day brings, you brought the right notebook.”

SAN FRANCISCO–Kane and Finkel Healthcare Communications has been awarded an estimated $1-2 million direct advertising assignment from Neutrogena Corp. without a review. LVCVA Aligns With SFX, Sets Presentations
LOS ANGELES–The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has formed a three-year alliance with SFX Live. SFX will promote Las Vegas at events across the country and bring live acts and shows to the city. R&R Advertising, Las Vegas, will create most of the promotional materials. Separately, agency presentations for the client’s $27-30 million account will take place March 9. The contenders are Colby Effler & Partners, Santa Monica, Calif.; Dailey & Associates, West Hollywood, Calif.; Young & Rubicam’s San Francisco office, pitching with The Merica Agency, Las Vegas; and incumbent R&R.

Billings are estimated at $30 million. Raytheon Co. in Lexington, Mass., has chosen Campbell-Ewald, Warren, Mich., for its $15 million ad account. McCann-Erickson, Los Angeles, and Keiler & Co., Farmington, Conn., were the other finalists. Gart Sports Co., Denver, narrowed its reviews to finalists last week, company officials said. Contenders for the client’s $8-10 million media buying account are Carat ICG and Media That Works, both Los Angeles. Battling for a broadcast project are Leo Burnett, Chicago, and Fogarty Klein & Partners, Houston. A decision is expected in early March.
