Horizon Media Adds Charlie Rutman as New Managing Partner

Industry vet will manage a portfolio of brands for the agency

Charlie Rutman has joined Horizon Media as a managing partner. 

Rutman, who has served as CEO at MPG, president of Carat USA, and most recently ran his own consulting firm, End Zone Communications, among other positions, will be responsible for managing a portfolio of brands within the agency. 

"Bill and I competed against each other fiercely for years and we talked for a while about figuring out how I could come here," Rutman told Adweek. "The thing that impressed me the most about Horizon is that they are really focused on client performance. I don't say that in a bragging way, but if I'm going to get back in the game I want to work with people who try to make a difference. That's the environment that I'd want to work with and that's what Horizon has." 

The agency is still determining which accounts Rutman will manage. During his career, Rutman has worked on Coca-Cola, Miller Brewing and Red Lobster, among other brands. The Ad Council also had Rutman manage its media efforts through his consulting firm.    

In a statement, Horizon CEO Bill Koenigsberg described Rutman as a "formidable media industry competitor and highly respected peer," adding, "I look forward to his expertise across all pieces of business at the agency." 

Beyond account management, Rutman will become part of Horizon's operating committee and contribute to new business efforts.
