Horizon, Fallon Win NBC Media

NEW YORK NBC Universal has retained independent incumbent Horizon Media for broadcast buying chores and enlisted Publicis Groupe’s Fallon for media planning and some buying on its estimated $140 million ad account following a review, the client has confirmed.

The other contenders were MDC Partners’ Media Kitchen and Publicis Groupe’s MediaVest, as well as Interpublic Group’s Initiative and deutschMedia, per sources. All contenders pursued the business from their offices in New York.

MediaVest and Media Kitchen had shared planning duties.

Along with planning, Fallon picks up print, online and out-of-home buying duties.

Agencies either declined comment or did not return calls. NBC has declined to comment during the review process, which began in July.

The procurement-based review covered all client-owned properties, including NBC, CNBC, MSNBC, USA, Sci-Fi and Bravo.

This story updates and corrects an item posted earlier today with client confirmation and the news that Fallon picks up some buying chores.
