Herman Miller Taps SCC for Ads

Office furniture marketer Herman Miller awarded its advertising account to Schafer Condon Carter here.

“We’re very pleased to add such a distinguished brand to our client roster,” said agency executive creative director Tim Condon in a statement. “Herman Miller is recognized worldwide for its innovative culture.”

The award concludes a review that included three to four Chicago shops and some Michigan agencies, according to Condon. There was no incumbent agency; the Zeeland, Mich., company had worked with several shops for different sectors of its business, according to a company representative [Adweek, Aug. 21].

The company’s last recorded spending, according to Competitive Media Reporting, was $2 million in 1998. That number is expected to increase, according to the company.

Two weeks ago, Herman Miller rival Steelcase awarded its advertising account to Martin/Williams in Minneapolis after a review that included BBDO Minneapolis.

Steelcase leads the office furniture category, while Herman Miller and Haworth, based in Holland, Mich., battle for the number two position.

Herman Miller joins General Mills, Solo Cup Co., Clark Retail Enterprises and Cat’s Pride cat litter on SCC’s roster.
