Omega Advertising executives are hitting the road with Miss America today, visiting children with diabetes.
The 1999 pageant winner, Nicole Johnson, has juvenile diabetes and has made awareness of the illness the cornerstone of her year of service. The Boston shop is teaming up with Johnson for two public service announcements.
Creative director Andy Fruit and production manager Liz Keefe are filming Johnson as she visits children at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston and its camp for kids in Charlton, Mass. Johnson, a native of Virginia Beach, Va., is a patient at a Joslin center in Florida.
Keefe is looking forward to her first introduction to a Miss America. “It should be fun,” she said.
The agency has produced public service announcements at cost for the Joslin Center for the past couple of years. The Miss America spots are scheduled to begin airing sometime in late summer or early fall in New England and other areas where Joslin centers are located. –Lauren Wiley
