Heineken Mulls 2 for Global Assignment

NEW YORK Two agencies remain in Heineken’s search for an additional global roster shop, the client confirmed.

Interpublic Group’s McCann Erickson in London and StrawberryFrog in Amsterdam and New York continue to vie for the duties, after the client eliminated Havas’ WCRS in London, according to Heineken representative Nicole McNaughton.

Sources said both shops would meet with the client this week for a third round of presentations. Agency executives declined comment.

The winning agency will join WPP Group’s Bates (which handles Singapore and Asian assignments) and Publicis (which handles work domestically) on the roster. StrawberryFrog is already handling a global assignment that promotes Heineken’s sponsorship of the UEFA Cup, but that work is separate from the global brand roster project.

McNaughton said that there is no specific new assignment in mind for the winning shop, but that the agency would be considered for upcoming global work. Wieden + Kennedy in Amsterdam, which had been handling Heineken in “numerous markets around the world,” resigned the business shortly after the beer maker launched the review in June, McNaughton said.

The client’s U.S. ad spending last year was $75 million, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.
