Health, Fitness Sites Surge

NEW YORK — As summer approaches, more Americans are logging on to health and fitness sites to improve their physiques, according to Media Metrix.

Promoting a program to lose 10 pounds by the 4th of July, eDiets.com recorded 273,000 average daily visitors the week ending May 26, up 57 percent from the week before. Traffic to Yahoo! Health and About Health and Fitness increased about 24 percent that week to 156,000 and 99,000 visitors, respectively.

Meanwhile, weekly Internet traffic was relatively light the week ending May 26, according to Media Metrix. The number of average daily visitors was down 2 percent to 57.2 million.
