Harpell/Martins Taps Peterson To Drive New Business Efforts

BOSTON – John Peterson has joined Harpell/Martins & Co. as director of marketing services, a new position at the 50-person agency in Maynard, Mass.
He is charged with overseeing the shop’s new business development, a function previously led by partners Pat Harpell and Fred Martins and co-creative director David Abend.
Having Peterson guide early-stage new business efforts will allow the agency principals to focus on existing accounts, said Martins, who has wanted more time to work with Abend on improving his shop’s creative product. Abend, a former copywriter at Arnold Communications in Boston and a highly touted freelancer, joined Harpell late last year.
Before joining Harpell, Peterson co-founded Channelvision, an Internet software and services company in Cambridge, Mass., which closed its doors. Prior to that, Peterson worked in the account service and new business departments at Boston-based high-technology specialists Duval Woglom Brueckner & Partners and Partners & Simons.
Peterson said he will target both consumer and business accounts as well as try to build Harpell’s advertising, public relations and Web divisions. The agency has enjoyed triple-digit billings growth to $54 million in the past couple years and has been trying to branch out beyond its base of high-technology clients.
