It’s not that they object to high quality. People just have other priorities when buying groceries. In a Vertis Communications poll, a mere 1 percent of respondents cited “best quality foods overall” when asked to identify the most important factor to them in deciding where to buy.

The leading factor was “lowest everyday prices” (cited by 27 percent), followed by “close to home” (18 percent), “less expensive” (8 percent) and “large selection” (7 percent). Six percent mentioned “best advertised specials,” matching the number who cited “best meats/poultry.”
