Despite the election-year focus on “Nascar dads,” Americans remain most devoted to sports in which the athletes aren’t encased in cars. (Just lots of padding.) An annual Harris Poll finds football retains its dominance when sports fans are asked to pick their favorite sport of all (see the chart). In fact, it gained one percentage point since last year and is up six points since 1994. Enthusiasm for the “national pastime” has at least stabilized after a long decline.
