NORTH READING, MASS. – Taking advantage of basketball’s surging popularity worldwide, Converse here is breaking back-to-school spots with basketball stars Larry ‘Grandmama’ Johnson and Kevin Johnson as well as the pop music quartet En Vogue. The ads began running in the U.S. and Europe last week and will break in Japan later this month. Another spot breaks today on network and cable channels. In addition, an as-yet-unproduced ‘Grandmama’ spot has been booked for NBC’s 1994 Super Bowl coverage.
