Graham Cracks Ford Roster

Colorado Shop Gets Collection Dealership
DETROIT–Graham Advertising in Colorado Springs, Colo., has landed a piece of Ford business, softening the blow of losing its status as a General Motors select agency following that automaker’s marketing reorganization.
Graham will handle local advertising for Ford Motor Co.’s new auto collection dealership in Oklahoma City, said Jerry Graham, chairman of the agency. Graham handled three Pontiac and three Chevrolet area marketing groups before GM shifted that work to its national agencies earlier this year.
Graham will work with J. Walter Thompson, Detroit, which remains national agency for Ford’s new auto collection dealerships, which are being bought and organized by the Ford Investment Enterprises Corp. Under the program, Ford will buy out the individual dealerships of all five Ford brands (Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda and Jaguar) in selected markets and consolidate them into one massive dealership that markets, sells and services all the brands.
Ford’s plans call for the collections to be up and running in major cities nationwide within the next five years.
In November, JWT created a new corporate unit, Automotive Retail Marketing, to handle the reorganized business. JWT handles national and local marketing for the Tulsa, Okla., San Diego and Rochester, N.Y., markets.
Salt Lake City local advertising was recently awarded to Larry John Wright, Mesa, Ariz., another agency that, like Graham, specializes in retail advertising.
