Going Strictly by the Numbers

Headhunters take note: the number of advertising and public relations college students and graduates is on the rise, according to an annual study conducted by two professors.
Data compiled by Billy Ross of Louisiana State University and Keith Johnson of Texas Tech University found that the number of students enrolled in advertising and public relations programs was up 4 percent to 36,648 in 1997. The number of graduates was also up 4 percent to 11,658.
Complete results of the survey-conducted at 199 schools around the country-are published in a directory titled, “Where Shall I Go to Study Advertising and Public Relations?”
The University of Texas at Austin boasts the largest advertising program with 823 students. The University of Florida in Gainesville has the most public relations students with 664.
Following the graduates out the door was a growing number of professors. The survey noted a faculty decrease of 2 percent at the participating schools.
