Days since the infamous Pistons/Pacers brawl that sent Ron Artest into exile for the remainder of the NBA season. What is he doing with all that spare time? Modeling. Artest joins such luminaries as Naomi Campbell, Karolina Kurkova, Kevin Bacon and rapper Cam’Ron in the spring 2005 Roc for Life campaign. He got the gig thanks to his friendship with Roc CEO Damon Dash. “Ron and I have known each other for some time,” Dash said in a statement. “Just as we were getting ready to shoot the campaign, I heard about his situation and contacted him about the opportunity immediately.”


Years that Toronto’s baseball stadium was known as the SkyDome. Last Wednesday it became the Rogers Centre, named after new owner Rogers Communications. Metro columnist Jonathan P. Kuehlein has this take on the change: “First impressions will tell you this move smacks of the same egotism that saw Ted Turner name the ballpark in Atlanta Turner Field. … But at second glance, the Jays have found one rare area where they can beat their division rivals. None of the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees or Baltimore Orioles has sold their stadium naming rights. Only the Tampa Bay Devil Rays have a naming rights pact in place, playing at Tropicana Field until 2026, thanks to PepsiCo.”
