Gleason Calise Branches Out

Gleason Calise Associ-ates here has formed an independent public relations unit to continue an expansion of services from the core of the agency.
Headed by new principal Reg Rowe, Gleason Calise Public Re-lations is the second major offspring of the nearly $50 million shop in recent months.
In July, the company spun off its media division into a separate unit called MediaWise, under division president Eileen Weinert.
Rowe brings experience from the client side, through companies like San Antonio-based SBC Communi-cations, Sprint in Kansas City and PrimeCo Personal Communications in Westlake, Texas. He is also a former pitcher in the Minnesota Twins organization, the agency said.
Just as MediaWise has its own roster that may or may not include GCA’s advertisers, Gleason Calise PR will also operate as a separate entity with its own account list that could cull business from the agency’s mainstream clients.
“This is new for us,” said GCA chairman Charlie Calise. Along with Weinert and president Matt Gleason, Calise said they “really sat down years ago and set out to build a fully integrated communications company.” A public relations unit was always a part of those plans, he said.
Although the public relations group was already in the works, a “substantial” contract from the Houston-based WilTel gave the division its first piece of business, according to Calise.
“We were going in this direction anyway, so the timing was very nice,” Calise said last week. “We’ll be working to position Wiltel among [its] information services customers as a leader in enterprise networking technology.”
Calise said the new public relations operation is looking to hire additional senior-level employees. He did not disclose initial billings.
