Ginsberg Joins AKQA as S.F. Managing Director

NEW YORK AKQA has hired Shane Ginsberg, the former vice president of client services at SBI.Razorfish, as a managing director.

In the newly created role, Ginsberg will oversee AKQA’s San Francisco headquarters, which has increased its staff by 30 percent to 91 people over the past nine months. The independent shop, which also has outposts in Washington, London and Singapore, has 300 total employees.

One of his primary focuses will be business development. The interactive agency, which works with clients like Nike, Visa and palmOne, said that it recently has responded to requests for information from automotive, travel and leisure, technology and retail companies.

Ginsberg, 31, will report to AKQA chief executive officer Tom Bedcarre.

The hire is a part of Bedecarre’s effort to expand the executive ranks of the independent shop, which claimed revenue of $36 million in 2003, up 20 percent from the previous year. Last month, Lot21 founder Kate Everett-Thorp joined AKQA in the new post of president of interactive [IQ Daily Briefing, July 20].

Ginsberg left SBI.Razorfish in June, a month before its $160 million acquisition by Seattle-based aQuantive. He had joined the digital agency after SBI and Company purchased Razorfish for $8.5 million in March 2003. Before that, Ginsberg was managing director of Razorfish’s San Francisco office, which he opened in 1998.
