Gains Halted

Rising oil prices last week overshadowed a report that unemployment had fallen to a five-year low of 4.4 percent in September, sending stocks lower after two weeks of gains. The Dow lost nearly 88 points over the week, falling to 11,986.04, a 0.7 percent decline. The Nasdaq dropped 16.42 points to 2,330.79, down 0.7 percent. Most ad companies declined. WPP Group fell 1 percent to 63.09. Publicis Groupe closed at 37.45, down nearly 4 percent. And Interpublic Group dropped 1.5 percent to finish at 10.49. Only Omnicom managed not to decline last week, closing almost flat at 100.44. —
