For most people in 2022, it’s impossible to avoid using electronic devices. We work, socialize and entertain ourselves through them. So when faced with the environmental impact of their production, consumers often feel at a loss for how to respond.

Back Market aims to change that. The ecommerce platform connects shoppers with certified refurbishers, offering access to thousands of products from over 1,500 sellers including smartphones, laptops, tablets, consoles, gaming equipment and TVs. Buying refurbished instead of new, the 8-year-old startup said, diverts electronic waste from the landfill and can avoid the carbon footprint of manufacturing another new device.
