NEW YORK Five semifinalists have emerged in the creative review for Capital One’s $170 million account, sources said. Grey in New York is the fifth contender along with McCann-Erickson and the Kaplan Thaler Group, both New York, Element 79 in Chicago and the Martin Agency in Richmond, Va.

Ten agencies in all submitted RFPs. Those not advancing include TBWA\Chiat\Day, J. Walter Thompson, Merkley Newman Harty & Partners, and Berlin Cameron/Red Cell, all New York, and Arnold in Boston.
