FCB Picks Up A&W Root Beer; Impact Makes Scudder Finals

While Foote, Cone & Belding here took on expanded work from a client last week, its Impact Communications Group unit seeks to do the same.
FCB picked up responsibilities for A&W Root Beer from Cadbury Beverages’ Dr Pepper/Seven Up unit. The agency has worked with Cadbury since 1989, handling Sunkist, Crush, Squirt and other brands.
Estimated billings for the A&W brand are $5-10 million, according to sources. Messner Vetere Berger McNamee Schmetterer Euro RSCG, New York, handled A&W previously.
FCB’s Impact unit, meanwhile, has made the final round of client Scudder Kemper Investment’s review for an estimated $15 million corporate account. The other finalists are Saatchi & Saatchi, Toronto, and New York agencies Grey Advertising and Gotham.
Impact is the agency for the Kemper Funds unit of Zurich Kemper Investments here, which merged in December with Boston’s Scudder, Stevens & Clark. The agency’s latest TV work for Kemper Funds broke last week during ESPN’s coverage of the Big Ten basketball tournament. Actor John Lithgow provides voiceovers for the two new spots, which are tagged, “Long-term investing in a short-term world.”
