Fallon Nabs Emmy for Citibank Spot

NEW YORK Fallon continued its dominance of the Emmy awards, winning the outstanding commercial honor for the third time in four years—this time for “Outfit” for Citibank—on Sunday at a ceremony in Los Angeles.

The commercial, directed by Kevin Thomas of Thomas Thomas Films, shows a man in an easy chair lip-syncing to a woman’s voice as she describes how she stole his check card and bought an outfit.

Publicis Groupe’s Fallon in Minneapolis was also nominated for “Interview” for United Airlines, an animated spot showing a man going to a job interview. Other nominees included Omnicom Group’s Goodby, Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco, which was recognized for “Born a Donkey,” a spot for Anheuser-Busch’s Budweiser that shows a donkey aspiring to be a Budweiser Clydesdale. The agency was also recognized for “Door Music” on behalf of Saturn. That spot shows a ball, a grocery-store cart and a cyclist, among others, bouncing off a Saturn car.

WPP Group’s Young & Rubicam in Chicago was nominated for Miller’s “Dominoes,” which shows a long line of people falling in domino-like fashion until two Miller drinkers step out of the way. Omnicom’s DDB in Chicago was recognized for “Rubberband Man” for Office Max, which features an office worker dancing as he delivers supplies.

Fallon’s “Fish” for PBS, showing a goldfish’s journey to a river, won last year. “Photo Booth,” also for PBS, depicted a man singing via a flip book of photos. That spot won in 2001.
