Energy Co. Cuts List, Unveils Ad

Energy Pacific has narrowed its search for an agency to handle its $3-5 million account to four Southern California shops. They are: Kovel Kresser & Partners, Santa Monica; Bozell Worldwide, Costa Mesa; Campbell-Ewald, Los Angeles; and Capener, Matthews & Walcher, San Diego.
The Los Angeles client has also launched a new campaign for its automatic earthquake shutoff valve. The less than $1 million campaign, created by Lois/EJL in Los Angeles, includes one TV spot and direct mail executions, according to Dirk Lenie, director of seismic safety products for Energy Pacific.
The 30-second spot, which broke last week on network TV in Los Angeles, depicts a man debating what to do during an earthquake: turn off his gas stove or save his fish. He decides to save the fish, since the valve has automatically shut off the gas coming into his home.
Energy Pacific is a joint venture of Enova Corp. and Pacific Enterprises, the parent company of the Southern California Gas Co., of which Lois/EJL is agency of record.
Energy Pacific excluded Lois/EJL from the current review because it considers the shop’s utility work a conflict with the account currently in play.
