EIi Lilly and Co. Opens PR Review

BOSTON Eli Lilly and Co. has launched a search for a public relations agency, according to sources.

Requests for proposals were due back this week from several undisclosed agencies. The Indianapolis-based pharmaceutical company, which began contacting shops this month, is not using a consultant. Details of the assignment were not clear; the budget was not disclosed. The client did not return calls.

Publicis Groupe’s Manning, Selvage & Lee, the incumbent, was not aware of an account review.

Last week, Eli Lilly launched an awareness-generating advertising campaign for its erectile dysfunction drug Cialis from Grey Global Group’s Grey in New York [Adweek Online, Jan. 16]. In 2002, Eli Lilly spent $15 million on ads; through November 2003 the client spent $65 million.
