Edelman Texas Names Director

Falcona to Direct Public Relations in Austin, Dallas, Houston
DALLAS–Edelman Public Relations Worldwide last week appointed Sam Falcona managing director of Edelman Texas. He will be responsible for managing the company’s offices in Austin, Dallas and Houston.
Falcona, 48, assumes his new position Nov. 1.
As an independent Chicago-based consultant, Falcona previously handled crisis preparedness, issues management and employee communications for Motorola, a futures and options exchange, and another unnamed electronics firm.
Prior to that, he served as vice president of corporate communications for GE Capital Auto Financial Services.
In addition to other communications positions, Falcona was a public affairs specialist with the U.S. Navy for 20 years.
“I’m looking forward to returning,” said Falcona, who was raised in Texas. “I [see] it as a perfect fit for my strengths . . . I have corporate and crisis management skills. I’ve had the opportunity to work with a number of agencies on the client side of the table and was very impressed with the caliber of the people at Edelman.”
“Obviously I have a fantastic team to work with,” Falcona continued. “I can come in and add value in these areas and with this team in place, we can grow in areas we haven’t grown in before.”
Falcona replaces John Holland, an Australian who resigned his position at Edelman to become managing director at Gavin Anderson, a public relations firm in Hong Kong.
“Sam is a proven leader who is taking the helm of our strong organization in Texas,” said Robert Kornecki, Chicago-based president of Edelman Public Relations’ central region. “All three [Texas] offices have built Edelman’s reputation for service, quality and excellence that we expect to [be] enhance[d] under Sam’s leadership.”
Said Pam Talbot, president and chief operating officer of Edelman U.S., in a statement, “Sam Falcon’s diversified corporate experience, specialized industry knowledge and leadership skills are closely aligned with the needs of our clients for solid public relations counsel and strategic communications services.”
Edelman Texas expects client revenue to exceed $4.5 million in 1999, up nearly 60 percent from last year’s total. The company currently employs 45 people in its statewide office network.
