CHICAGO J.C. Penney drugstore chain Eckerd Corp. has retained ja&g advertising as its full-service ad shop following a four-month review, an agency executive confirmed.

The Cincinnati shop bested three undisclosed agencies for the $60 million account. Eckerd, a Largo, Fla.-based subsidiary of J.C. Penney, sent out proposal requests to agencies in November 2002. “They were asking for capabilities,” said Sam Gingrich, ja&g’s chief executive officer. Eckerd executives could not be reached for comment.

Ja&g, formerly Backley & Gingrich Advertising, originally acquired the account in December 2000 without a review.
