An up-and-coming futuristic sport is locking in a blockbuster sponsorship with a technology positioning itself as the currency of the future.

The Drone Racing League (DRL) said this week it signed a five-year contract with cryptocurrency platform Algorand that those close to the companies say is worth $100 million. The sum makes the deal the biggest sponsorship yet for the New York-based sports organization, which holds competitions between pilots remotely guiding drones through courses of neon-lit rings.
