Investor confidence was buoyed last week after a strong new-jobs report was released on Friday. Both the Dow Jones industrial average and the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index hit three-year highs on the news. The Dow rose 107.52, or 1 percent, to close at 10,940.55, while the S&P gained 11.65, or 1 percent, to reach 1,222.12. The Nasdaq lagged other indices but nonetheless rose 12.21, or 0.6 percent, to end at 2,070.61. The Labor Department said 262,000 jobs were created in February throughout the economy, more than had been expected and the best showing in four months.
