Dodgers Ink Rosen as Marketing Chief

LOS ANGELES Lon Rosen has been named the executive vice president and chief marketing officer of the Los Angeles Dodgers, the baseball team said yesterday. Rosen joins the team May 17.

Rosen, 45, most recently partnered with Sandy Climan in the Entertainment Media Ventures agency. Earlier in his career, Rosen headed up L.A. Lakers, Kings and Forum Special Events before becoming a sports agent for clients such as Irvin “Magic” Johnson. He also started the sports-marketing company First Team Marketing and ran Endeavor Talent Agency’s marketing and new media division.

“Lon knows what it takes to build a winning franchise on and off the field,” said Dodgers owner Frank McCourt in a statement. “We’re very pleased he will lead our all-encompassing marketing efforts in this new era of Dodgers baseball.”

Rosen could not be reached for comment.

Chris Bruyere, account supervisor at independent WongDoody, Los Angeles, the Dodgers’ agency, said the shop knows little about Rosen at this point. “Of course, with new ownership and a new CMO, you never know [about an agency shift],” Bruyere said. “But if you look at the quality of our work and the fact that the Dodgers have increased attendance for the last five years, I’d say no, we’re not nervous.”
