‘Doctor of Cool’ for BaylessCronin

Jennifer Spillers has joined BaylessCronin as creative resource manager.

Spillers arrives at the Atlanta creative boutique from Wieden + Kennedy in New York, where she helped implement an “internal richness” program. The program exposes agency creatives to the ideas and work of avant-garde artists, designers and photographers.

“She’s our doctor of cool,” said agency chief executive officer Tim Bayless. “It’s a good idea to stay current with what’s going on, whether it’s comic books, fashion or flash animation. We need to know what smells right out there.”

Spillers’ more traditional responsibilities include working on new business pitches.

“We thrive on chaos,” saidBayless, “but Jennifer is helping us be just a little less crazy.”

As creative resource manager, Spillers is also responsible for expanding the agency’s “art buying”—locating and hiring graphic designers, illustrators and directors to keep BaylessCronin’s creative output fresh.

“These are the folks who make ads pop,” said Spillers.

The trick is finding the visual specialists, particularly in smaller markets.

“It’s a lot more difficult to find resources in Atlanta,” said Spillers. “They’re out there, but finding them is interesting and time-consuming.”

Spillers is an Atlanta native who attended the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa. She began her career at Polo Jeans in New York, where, among other duties, she coordinated Ralph Lauren fashion shows.
