President Bush intends to nominate Charlotte Beers, former chairman of J. Walter Thompson, to become the next undersecretary of state of public diplomacy.

The White House announced the move Friday, and Peter Schweitzer, worldwide CEO of JWT, informed his staff in a memo Monday.

Beers, whose contract with the agency expired last month, “has our admiration and appreciation for what she has done for JWT,” Schweitzer said.

Secretary of State Colin Powell asked Beers to take the post overseeing information agencies abroad.
