Deutsch Spoofs Itself

Just in time for Advertising Week, Deutsch has come up with a self-promoting spoof of the creative process. At, viewers can choose a client category (like “fast food”), a style (“emotional” or “edgy”) and a demographic. Then video of creatives pitching an idea appears. For example, an edgy fast-food ad could include a big dance number. Creatives in the videos are a mix of actors and actual Deutsch creatives, including copywriter Josh Greenspan, who contributed. Kathy Delaney was ecd, and group creative directors Scott Bassen and David Rosen were copywriter and art director, respectively. Carlos Fernandez served as junior art director. “The Web site allowed us to push that notion of having fun and celebrating advertising,” says Bassen. A trade print ad promotes the site.

David Carter, 37, has joined BBDO New York as a senior creative director. He was most recently a senior art director at Fallon in Minneapolis.Taxi in New York has hired a former Fallon New York creative team: copywriter Adam Alshin, 28, and art director Kim Haxton, 25. Also, davidandgoliath in Los Angeles has hired art director Tim O’Malley, 31, who had been at Goodby, Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco; senior art director Simon Tuplin, 36, who was at Lowe Roche in Toronto; copywriter James King, 30, who had been at Mullen; and art director Ron Tapia, 32, a former freelancer.

“Surprise Dinner” by DDB in Los Angeles for Ameriquest Mortgage won a 2005 Creative Arts Emmy on Sept. 11 for outstanding commercial. The spot, directed by Craig Gillespie of MJZ, shows a man seemingly attacking the family cat (in actuality, he was only making dinner). … A Band Apart has signed directors Adam Pollina and Ben Dickinson. Pollina has directed music videos for My Morning Jacket and Tsar. Dickinson had been part of directors’ collective Waverly Films.
