Deutsch Expands Mitsubishi Business

LOS ANGELES — Mitsubishi’s plans to expand distribution into Canada have lead to a similar expansion from its US agency, Deutsch.

The agency, whose office here handles the automaker’s domestic advertising, is in the process of opening a seven-person office in Toronto and a four-person office in Montreal within the next two weeks, said Mike Sheldon, managing partner and general manager of Deutsch LA..

The Toronto based Mitsubishi Motor sales of Canada conducted a review that involved at least five undisclosed Canadian-based agencies along with Deutsch, sources said. Plans call for a marketing effort beginning in late summer with sales of all eight Mitsubishi models beginning in September through at least 50 dealers. The new Canadian offices will represent the agency’s first efforts outside of the US. The agency, which is headquartered in New York and part of Interpublic Group of Cos., last year shut its Boston outpost.
