DDB Grows Its Creative Ranks

DDB Worldwide has hired three new creatives and promoted three others in an effort to bolster work on Compaq and several new accounts won this year.
Brian Fandetti, formerly a senior creative executive at The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va., and Tan Shen Guan, formerly an executive creative director at J. Walter Thompson, Hong Kong, have joined DDB as executive creative directors. The pair brings to four the number of ecd’s at DDB in New York. All report to co-creative officers David Nathanson and Steven Landsberg.
Additionally, Xavier Rodon, 30, formerly a global creative director at Advico, a division of Young & Rubicam in Zurich, was named a creative director, one of three at the shop.
“If we want to be the best agency in the world, we have to go out and find the best people in the world,” said Landsberg. “Shen, Brian and Xavier all have a very good visual sense of communication to their work. That’s increasingly necessary in a global-visual world.”
With 12 account wins this year, Nathanson said the hires would deepen DDB’s creative bench. “It’s not changing the way accounts are pitched or handled,” he said. “We just have greater depth and range to deal with in our talent pool.”
The newcomers will also get to test their mettle on Compaq, “a canvas on which the best talent can display its wares,” Nathanson said.
Fandetti, 52, worked on Martin’s humorous Yellow Pages campaign featuring actor Jon Lovitz. He will team with 16-year DDB vet Ken Shuldman (newly promoted to the third ecd post) on Amtrak, Bayer, Cigna, and Starwood’s Sheraton.
Shen, 37, will team with Giff Crosby (promoted to the fourth ecd slot), to work on Compaq, Lockheed Martin, The Bank of New York and new business.
Sephora, Henkel, Bentley Motor Cars and Mobil 1 are among the shop’s newest clients.
Lastly, Stewart Krull, 34, rose to associate creative director for his work on Michelin, Amtrak and Cigna.
