Dave & Buster’s Chooses Finalists

DALLAS Dave & Buster’s has narrowed the review its $5-7 million account to three shops, the consultant confirmed.

Advancing are Interpublic Group’s Austin Kelly Advertising in Atlanta, Publicis Groupe’s Fallon in New York, and Maxxcom’s Crispin Porter + Bogusky in Venice, Calif., and Miami, confirmed Pile and Co. EVP and managing partner Judy Neer.

Boston-based Pile is handling the search. Paperwork was sent to a select group of shops earlier this month.

Sources said at least four other shops received questionnaires. The Loomis Agency in Dallas returned the paperwork but was cut, according to sources. Shops that declined to return the questionnaires included the incumbent, independent Square One, Publicis in Mid America and independent Ackerman McQueen, all in Dallas, sources said.

The agencies either declined comment or could not be reached.

The advancing shops will attend a finalists briefing later this week at the client’s Dallas headquarters. Final presentations will be held Aug. 13, sources said.

Sources linked the initiation of the review to Maria Miller’s arrival in May as the client’s svp of marketing. She replaced Stuart Myers, who left the Dallas-based client shortly after Dave & Buster’s consolidated its account at One Square, the holding company that includes Square One and Southwest Media Group.

Southwest Media has done media planning and buying for the client, which operates 32 restaurant-and-entertainment complexes, since 1997.

The client could not immediately be reached for comment.
